    To Whom It May Concern:

I was in the Tuscaloosa, Alabama office and was specifically treated terribly by Marco Smith. It was clear he didn’t want to serve me and made several references to the fact that I had arrived too late, though there was still 40 minutes left before their closing time. I realized I would need to pick up my glasses on another day and told Marco I didn’t mind. Still, he spoke rudely and dismissively, even asking why I didn’t come in earlier: “Did you have to work or something?” He followed up with, “You know we can’t help you if you don’t have a prescription.” I let him know I had already had a prescription with me from my eye doctor. And that since I had been in the store on a previous day, I had already picked out the glasses I wanted. Being out of excuses to not serve me, Marco began rushing through the process. Around that time, I mentioned that I’d like the sunglasses to be progressive glasses, no prescription on top just reading glasses on bottom. Gleefully, Marco then decided he couldn’t help me at all since my prescription didn’t include a reading-glasses prescription on it. This was surprising since a person can buy reading glasses at any store without a prescription at all. I even told him what strength I normally buy. Unconcerned, Marco retorted, “What…you think that’s crazy?” “Yes,” I replied, “since no one else requires a prescription for reading glasses.” At that point, Marco sought to “prove” me wrong and became quite challenging and sarcastic in his tone. It was so rude, in fact, that I felt compelled to leave the store and not buy glasses from Eyemart Express at all.

Though I had several pair of glasses in front of me to fill by regular prescription, Marco’s behavior was too personally insulting for me to continue with him. Trying to gain a little peace going, I explained that I wasn’t trying to irritate him or challenge him but that I didn’t understand why reading glasses were such a problem to process. To just end the misery of dealing with Marco personally I said, “Maybe I ought to just go somewhere else. You obviously aren’t wanting to help me.” I knew that even if he had been correct about the reading glasses, he could’ve just said he’d fill the prescription I had with me, and hold onto the sunglasses until I could get a prescription to him for the reading glasses; he could’ve just applied a modicum of customer service sense to save the sale, but Marco was very quickly willing to not process an order for me at all. Additionally, he seemed to have little to no shame in behaving so rudely toward a random customer. The whole process of driving me out was less than 10 minutes. And I had been the only customer in the store at that time. I’m usually quite enduring, allowing people a solid amount of grace in their manner even if it’s a little rude or abrupt without cause. But Marco seems to be more of an expert in challenging a customer’s patience.

Before leaving. I asked for the manager’s number to which he replied he was the manager. He said it with a little glimmer of glee in his eye as though I might not be able to report him to anyone. Being middle-aged, however, I do know that nearly everyone has a boss and so I asked for the corporate office number. He gave me a number that didn’t prove valid. That number was 888-372-2763. He said his bosses’ name was David Wolf.

Subsequent to not being successful with the information Marco gave me, I went to the internet and found this site to issue a complaint on Marco Smith. If I were an executive at Eyemart, I would certainly want to understand what was going on at the lower level branches, especially if it regarded unnecessary, egregious behavior of a branch manager.

This was supposed to be a certain sale for Eyemart Express. I had gotten my prescription, previously picked out the glasses from Eyemart Express, and was within a few minutes of ordering multiple pairs of glasses when I encountered Marco in the Tuscaloosa store. Not only did I not buy the glasses, but knowing Marco is actually the overall manager of that store, I definitely will not return. Furthermore, I will be sure to discourage anyone else from getting glasses at the Tuscaloosa Eyemart Express as well–there are many other places to buy glasses. Why should anyone need to contend with Marco Smith simply because they show up at a time when Marco doesn’t feel like helping you…?

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

    Sincerely,
    Polly A. Tottle

“Ready in an hour” is not always possible. On April 6th my husband picked out some Bolle frames and polarized lens for his prescription sunglasses and the (Jackson, MS) in-store lab could not make them after 3-4 attempts. After 4 days they shipped the frames (and lens?) to the “home office” to be completed. I have called our local store re the order (sunglasses) and the response is always “They aren’t ready and we do not know when they will be ready. You will be notified when we receive them from the “home office”. When I ask for the number to the “home office” so that I could call and check on my order they said no. So somewhere out in “eyemart express land” is a pair of bolle sunglasses waiting to be put together and find it’s owner……12 days and counting
