One of Kodakgallery.com/Sierra Nevada's first-year pros, Mike Dietrich
has the confidence, experience and talent to take full advantage of
the opportunity and establish himself as an elite climber and time
Mike raced mountain bikes as a teenager and began racing seriously
on the road in 2001 before earning a spot on the highly regarded Fiordifrutta
amateur team after a strong performance in the Tour of Cuba at the
end of the 2002 season.
In 2003, his first season with Fiordifrutta, Mike won a stage of the
Tour of Ohio, followed by two stage wins and 2nd place overall there
in 2004. Continuing to improve, Mike was solidly among of the nation's
best amateurs in 2005.
In particular, his 9th place overall in the Tour of Connecticut was
a breakthrough performance. "I was the highest-placed amateur
by a couple minutes and only the big names took any time out of me,"
Mike recalls. "That was when I started thinking that I would
make it as a pro."
A full-time student majoring in finance at the University of Arizona,
Mike enjoys "all sports - hockey, football, even ping pong."
