Morgan
Hill, Calif. (April 10, 2005) - The Kodak EasyShare Gallery/Sierra Nevada
Professional Cycling Team showed its depth and the quality of its preparation
for the Sea Otter Classic's Sierra Nevada/Kodak Gallery Road Stage Race
by taking second and third places in today's Morgan Hill Grand Prix.
Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada's Hayden Godfrey and Jackson Stewart were
part of a group of roughly six riders including David Clinger and John
Kelly (Webcor Builders), masters national champion Michael Hutchinson
(Team Spine) and a Monex rider that bridged up solo leader David Zabriskie
(CSC) in the middle of the 75-minute race. Godfrey and Stewart marked
Zabriskie's attacks, but he eventually soloed away for good with 25 minutes
remaining.
As the chase group disintegrated, Godfrey attempted to bridge to Zabriskie
but was unable to close the gap and settled for second place in front
of the remaining chasers.
Stewart came around Clinger in the final meters to take third place. Out
of 125 starters in the Pro/1/2 field, Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada's Russell
Hamby and Tim Larkin placed 14th and 15th, respectively.
The Morgan Hill Grand Prix was sponsored by Specialized Bicycle Components,
which is headquartered in Morgan Hill and provides Decibel helmets and
Adaptalite optics to the Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada team.
Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada Racing Manager Robin Zellner said, "Today
was a good race for us and I think we showed that we'll be ready for Sea
Otter this week and the Tour de Georgia after that."
Winner of the 3km prologue in last year's Sea Otter stage race, Hayden
Godfrey added, "I feel good and I'll be gunning for that Sea Otter
prologue again. My teammates and I will definitely be motivated by the
Sierra Nevada and Kodak Gallery banners lining the course!"
The Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada team for the Sea Otter Classic's Sierra
Nevada/Kodak Gallery Road Stage Race will be Hayden Godfrey, Russell Hamby,
Ben Jacques-Maynes, Tim Larkin, Jackson Stewart and Scott Zwizanski.
