Jesse Anthony at the finish |
Hiawassee, Georgia (April 22, 2006) - After starting
from Blairsville in a steady rain, the fifth stage of the Ford Tour de Georgia
finished 95 miles later under clear skies atop the notorious climb of Brasstown
Bald Mountain, the state's highest peak.
Kodakgallery.com/Sierra Nevada's Ben Jacques-Maynes was the team's best
finisher in 34th place, while Jesse Anthony was next for the team in 46th.
"It was a tough day for us, but this is
tough race. Still, we can't say enough about how Jesse's riding in his first
big race as a pro. We'll bounce back tomorrow," said General Manager Robin
Zellner.
Tomorrow's stage covers 118 miles from Cumming to Alpharetta; it was in
this stage last year that Kodakgallery.com/Sierra Nevada's Dominique Perras
was part of a four-rider breakaway that was caught during the final kilometers.
