Merced, CA (March 2, 2007) - In a show of appreciation for the great steps taken by Merco Credit Union to save the McClane Pacific Cycling Classic, the Kodak Gallery Pro Cycling Team, presented by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. spent Friday meeting with community leaders and local school children. Three Kodak Gallery - Sierra Nevada riders met this morning with Merced Mayor, Ellie Whooten, and members of her staff at the city's civic center. In the meeting, riders expressed their gratitude to the City and local merchants. Riders also took advantage of the meeting to show off their sleek new carbon-fiber Kuota Kredo race bicycles and to answer questions posed by members of the Merced television and print media. At nearby McSwain Elementary School, four other members of the Kodak Gallery - Sierra Nevada Pro Cycling Team discussed the importance of good decision making with an assembly of fourth grade students. Topics ranged from the importance of making healthy diet choices to the value wearing a helmet on the bike. The children were captivated by the riders' stories and enthusiastically asked questions. At the end of the assembly, riders signed autographs and posed for pictures with the students. Following the busy day of community outreach, team members gathered at their hotel to watch three separate evening news stories featuring the Kodak Gallery - Sierra Nevada Pro Cycling Team before enjoying a team meal at a downtown Merced restaurant. The team will see racing action in Saturday's Merco Downtown Grand Prix and Sunday's 120-mile Merco Foothills Road Race.
